Javelin missile used by US Forces in RL. Used to illustrate the firing position of the classic M1337 MARP and operation in informational pamphlets.
Seeking to fill in a ground artillery niche while providing maximum mobility, the Colonial (now currently CRE) Marine Corps Special Mechanized Infantry Force began searching for numerous systems to supplement its existing Arm Slave RPG systems and provide a counterpart to the Armored Cavalry's Clan derived missile and Ultra Heavy Gauss systems.
HT Industries created a system which provided the answer to the SMIF's problem after extensive testing. The M1337 Mobile Artillery Rocket Package is a system designed to deliver heavy firepower upon armored formations, infantry formations, heavily armored or shielded targets, and fortifications without need for Line of Sight, much like a conventional artillery piece.
The MARP uses a heavily modified version of the standard CRE Arm Slave RPG, slaved to a stability and communications rig that hooks onto the Arm Slave in question which enables it to commnicate with the Arbalest's onboard targeting and computer systems via a hard connection shielded from ballistics and energy fire, resembling the Smartgun Rig from Aliens in appearance. The AS in question sits on the ground, and calculates arc and trajectory using the designated coordinates, and the user can customize various aspects of the attack, before firing the rocket.
Note that for nations that do not use giant robots, the MARS launching system can be placed onto an ordinary truck or IFV, with an onboard computer to provide the targeting and calculations.
The rocket itself is a two stage device, utilizing an initial mass driver mechanism to eject the rocket out some distance away from the target before an impulse engine provides initial thrust to the objective in a "soft launch." When the rocket approaches the objective, it discharges the initial motor, and activates a more powerful second stage rocket to provide additional thrust in order to reach the objective. To help protect the missile in flight, limited shielding and preprogrammed evasion protocols are included in the missile.
Supported rockets include:
--High Explosive
--Bunker Buster (Gravity and Repulsor Assisted Penetration)
--Fuel Air
--Napalm
--Fragmenting Uniform Cluster Kill Adjustable Strike System (A cluster bomb with hundreds of hand grenade sized cluster munitions, can be either high explosive or white phosphorous's FT Equivalent)
--Acid Rain Bomb (Not quite like the ecological phenomenon; disperses an acidic parciulate harmful to enemy infantry as an area denial system. Can also be used to deploy less morally offensive peppergas.)
--Nanite Gel Bomb (Unleashes a ravenous cloud of nanotech gray goo upon the offending target. Said Grey Goo has a IFF system, and will thus avoid friendly targets)
--Type 500 Battlefield Integrated Tactical Combat High-yield MIRV System--a universal launching platform to launch atomic munitions at offending targets, using a MIRV concept. Said MIRV warheads can be guided to individual targets, or simply made to really ruin one target's ability to even exist. Also good for Chemical and biological work too!
--Probability Manipulation Bomb
--Multiple Dropping Attack System--a hybrid of the MIRV and Cluster Bomb concept. Uses a series of pods to carry a large number of smaller missiles. At a predeteremined distance or upon remote detonation, the pods unleash a large number of missiles, which can be programmed to either focus on one target or multiples, using thrusters to quickly close with the opposition. (OOC: Inspired by the Jericho System from Iron Man.)
The A1 System, refined during the Civil War, is a simplified version of the original capable of mounting onto a deuce-and-a-half truck or equivalent, or any other large vehicle, or alternatively, a fixed position, with a slightly more sophisticated computer and response time.
The weapon is currently in service with the CRE; although it was slated for testing on Miradath, the test never took place. However, it saw service during the Civil War on both sides, resulting in the weapon being used with terrifying accuracy to hit bunkers and entrenched fortifications, and even low-flying aircraft!
