The Kagemusha Self-Defense Fan is a modified Japanese War Fan, aka a "tessen," first developed by the Tadanobu General Services Corporation for an ERIS Contract. Cleared for release to the general public, due to its high cost it is targeted for upscale markets as a concealed blaster for those who want something that looks stylish, will get people talking, and will ensure that people who talk shit get hit.
Like the original tessen it's based off of, the Kagemusha Fan looks like a rather large Japanese-style fan that belongs as a wall decoration, or maybe in the hands of folks cooling themselves off with nary an electric fan or air conditioner in sight. Indeed, it looks rather stylish--each fan is available with everything from calligraphy to Hiroshige prints silkscreened onto the surface. And, it feels quite pleasant to hold and touch.
However, looks are naturally deceiving. The Kagemusha's outer ribs are made with phrik and carbon fiber, along with a flexible silksteel/phrik/psychically conductive mesh weave that only feels pleasant to the touch, yet adds a bit of heft to the whole assembly. This enables the Kagemusha to be used as a shield to block melee hits (and to have some strength against lightsabers), as well as enables it to be used as a rather stout baton in its collapsed state.
To add to the options available to the user, unlike the Tessens of old, additional modifications are made to the fan which enable the user to project blaster fire from it. Namely, in the rather stout ribs, standard blaster pistol cells are inserted into a compartment which provide energy to fuel the blaster inside. The blasts themselves come out of special projectors installed in the modified ribs of the fan, which are highly miniaturized versions of the blaster mechanisms you'd find on things like the DL-44 or TGSC's own M3 series. To fire the blasts, one merely has to hold down a pressure switch and wave the fan in a dramatic, and aggressive fashion horizontally, diagonally or vertically. A motion sensor within the fan measures the rate at which the fan moves. When the fan is detected as moving aggressively enough and when motion is detected in front of the target, the blasters fire, either projecting a single, arc-shaped blast, or multiple shots in a forward arc. These modes of fire can be accessed with a three position switch near the battery compartment--one can flick the switch to render the blaster safe, perform multiple shots in a forward arc spread, or fire one wide, arc shaped shot forward.
Further benefits exist for users with powers. Upon detection, the Kagemusha can unlock a special "electroshock" ability, whereupon the user can feed psychic energy into the fan to produce an electroshock effect upon smacking the fan into opponents whilst it is opened.
